Marketing Strategy Malta: Gain an Advantage

Malta’s business landscape is competitive and increasingly digital and standing out requires more than a website and a social media presence.

It requires a coherent digital marketing strategy that connects your brand, your audience, and your business objectives into a single, coherent plan.

As a fractional marketing lead with 20+ years of experience, I work closely with business owners and marketing teams across Malta (and in the US, Germany, and The Netherlands).

They benefit from my experience through developed and refined strategies that are grounded in real market analysis, not templates or guesswork. My approach adapts to your unique needs, your sector, and the realities of operating in a small but dynamic market.

What you get isn’t a generic slide deck. It’s a clear strategy with the structure, insight, and implementation focus to actually drive growth.

Why a Solid Marketing Strategy Is the Foundation of Business Growth

Many businesses in Malta invest in marketing activities without a coherent strategy connecting them. The result is ad hoc spend, inconsistent messaging, and growth that plateaus.

A professional marketing strategy changes that by giving your business a shared direction, clear priorities, and a way to measure what’s actually working.

With 20+ years of experience across B2B and B2C businesses in tech, travel, and beyond, I bring the strategic depth and practical insight that turns business goals into a focused, executable plan.

For Maltese businesses in particular, that means understanding the local market dynamics, the competitive landscape, and how to build visibility that extends beyond the island; whether through organic search, content, or digital channels that attract customers regionally and internationally.

My Approach to Marketing Strategy

The process follows the same rigorous methodology I apply to every engagement, adapted to the Maltese market context.

1. Understanding Your Business and Goals

Before any strategy is built, I invest time understanding your business model, revenue goals, team setup, and competitive position.

2. Market Analysis & Research

I dig into your market, your customers, and your competitors. Who are your ideal customers? What are they looking for? Where are your competitors falling short? This research phase is what separates an effective marketing strategy from one that misses the mark.

3. Strategy Development

With the research in hand, I develop a tailored marketing strategy (with a digital strategy front-and-centre) covering your positioning, messaging, channel priorities, and brand identity, all aligned to your overall business strategy.

4. Final Strategy & Marketing Roadmap

You receive a complete, actionable marketing strategy: a prioritised plan covering what to focus on, in what order, with what resources, and how to measure success.

5. Execution Support

For clients who want continued involvement, I can stay close to implementation by reviewing progress, adjusting tactics, and ensuring the strategy delivers measurable results, not just a polished document.

The Marketing Strategy Grant for Micro and Small Enterprises in Malta

If your business qualifies, you may be able to get up to €10,000 in EU funding to cover the cost of a marketing strategy, with a grant covering between 50% and 60% of eligible costs.

Here’s a plain-English breakdown of how it works.

What Is the Grant?

The Marketing Strategy for Micro and Small Enterprises Grant Scheme is an EU-funded initiative that covers between 50% and 60% of the cost of commissioning a marketing strategy,  up to a maximum of €10,000.

As a registered service provider under the scheme, I can help eligible Malta-based businesses unlock this funding to invest in a top-quality, actionable marketing strategy at a fraction of the usual cost.

It’s one of the most straightforward grants available to small businesses in Malta, and a smart way to make the investment in marketing support go further.

Who Is Eligible?

The scheme is open to micro and small enterprises registered and operating in Malta or Gozo. The EU definition is straightforward:

  • Micro enterprise: fewer than 10 employees, and annual turnover or balance sheet of €2 million or less
  • Small enterprise: fewer than 50 employees, and annual turnover or balance sheet of €10 million or less

Importantly, the business must not have internal marketing capability. The strategy must be procured from an external, registered service provider unrelated to your business.

How Much Can You Get?

The maximum grant is €10,000, covering:

  • 60% of eligible costs for startups (micro or small enterprises up to five years old)
  • 50% of eligible costs for more established businesses

So if your marketing strategy costs €10,000, a startup could receive €6,000 back; an established business would receive €5,000.

What Does the Grant Cover?

The grant covers the cost of the marketing strategy itself – the fee paid to the registered external service provider. It does not cover implementation costs such as advertising spend, media buying, social media ads, or marketing materials.

The strategy document is the eligible deliverable.

How Does Reimbursement Work?

The grant is paid in two stages after the work is completed, not upfront but in two stages:

  1. First claim (80% of your grant): submitted once the completed marketing strategy is delivered and verified
  2. Second claim (20% of your grant): submitted once you provide evidence that you have begun implementing the Action Plan included in the strategy.

All payments must be made by traceable bank transfer.

How to Apply

Navigating EU funding applications can feel daunting, but as a registered service provider under this scheme, guiding you through the process is part of what I do.

From understanding whether your business qualifies, to preparing your application and ensuring the final strategy meets all the requirements for reimbursement, I’ll make sure the process is as straightforward as possible.
